GUIDE

When a gifted creator doesn’t post

You sent the kit, it arrived, and weeks later there’s nothing. It happens to every brand: most gifted creators never post. Before you write anyone off, check a few things, follow up once, and use what you learn for the next send.

First: this is normal

A gift isn’t a contract. Creators get a lot of boxes, and they owe nobody a video. In Traackr’s 2023 survey of 305 marketers, 61% said fewer than half of the creators who receive a product end up posting. If one creator from a wave of 30 stays quiet, your program is working about as expected.

So the question isn’t “how do I make them post?” It’s “did they really not post, and what do I do with that?”

Check these before you follow up

  1. 01

    Did it arrive?

Check the tracking. Parcels go to old addresses, sit at depots or get signed for by a building manager. A surprising share of “ghosting” is a box that never reached the creator.

  2. 02

Did they post without tagging you?

This is the big one. Creators often show a product with no tag, no mention and no brand name in the caption. Searching your handle won’t find it. Scroll their recent TikToks, Reels and Shorts and watch for the product itself, or use a tool that checks the video, like Pozto’s untagged product detection.

  3. 03

    Did they post somewhere else?

Check every platform they use. A creator you found on TikTok may have shown it in a YouTube Short instead.

  4. 04

    Did they post a Story?

Instagram and other Stories disappear after 24 hours. If a creator mostly posts Stories, ask them kindly whether they shared it there; you may have just missed it. (Pozto doesn’t cover Stories today.)

  5. 05

    Is it just early?

Creators plan content one to three weeks ahead, and some products need weeks of use before an honest review: skincare, supplements, haircare.

How long to wait

Time since deliveryWhat to do
0–14 daysNothing. Let them use it.
About 14 daysOne friendly check-in: did it arrive, do they like it?
14–30 daysWait. Most posts that are coming arrive in this window.
30+ daysClose it out in your tracker. Keep an eye out for a late post.
A rule of thumb, not a deadline. Products that need weeks of use deserve a longer window.

How to follow up without pressure

One message, warm, short and with an easy way out. It should feel like a person checking in, not an invoice.

  • Ask whether it arrived and how they’re finding it. Genuinely want the answer.
  • Don’t mention a post, a deadline or “our agreement” if there wasn’t one.
  • Make “no” easy: “No pressure at all, just wanted to make sure it got to you.”
  • Send it once. A second nudge about the same gift is when creators start to feel chased.
Check-in message
Hi {name}, hope you’re well! Just checking the {product} made it to you okay. Would love to hear what you think once you’ve tried it. No pressure at all, we just wanted to make sure it arrived. {your name}

If they posted without tagging you, the message changes: say thanks first, then ask for the tag as a favor. More versions are in our gifting email templates.

Posted without a tag
Hi {name}, we just saw your video with the {product}. Thank you, we loved it! If you’re up for it, could you add {handle} to the caption so our team can share it too? Totally fine if not. {your name}

What not to do

  • Don’t ask for the product back. It was a gift. Asking makes your brand look small, and creators talk to each other.
  • Don’t send repeated reminders. One check-in is kind. Three is pressure.
  • Don’t call it out publicly. Ever.
  • Don’t assume bad faith. Life happens, the product didn’t suit them, or the timing was wrong.

When to let go

After 30 days and one check-in with no reply, close the creator out for this wave. If they’ve now received two sends and posted neither, leave them off the next one. That’s not a judgment, just a fit signal. Note it in your roster so nobody on the team re-sends by accident.

If they replied kindly but didn’t post, keep them on a “maybe” list. They might be perfect for a different product.

How to raise post rates next time

  • Ask before you ship. A short opt-in message filters out people who don’t want the product. It’s the single biggest lever.
  • Pick for fit, not size. Creators who already show products like yours post more often.
  • Send full-size, easy-to-film products with a short personal note, not a brief.
  • Time it. Aim for arrival two to three weeks before you want posts.
  • Find who loved it anyway. Count untagged posts before you decide who “didn’t post”. Those creators may be your best ones.
  • Track the post rate per wave so you can see what moved it.

Let the tracking do the checking

Checking every creator’s feed after every send is exactly the work that stops scaling. Pozto watches each new TikTok, Reel and Short from your gifted creators, finds your product in the frames, audio and caption, and marks each one posted, waiting or ghosted, tagged or not. On Growth, late creators get a friendly nudge you approve in one tap. It’s free for your first 10 creators. See how it works for influencer gifting.

Questions

Is an influencer obligated to post a gifted product?

No. Unless you agreed on a post in advance, a gift carries no obligation. If you need guaranteed posts, run a paid collaboration with a written agreement.

How long should I wait for a gifted influencer to post?

Give it about 30 days from delivery, with one friendly check-in around day 14. Products that need weeks of use, like skincare, may take longer.

Should I ask for the product back if they don’t post?

No. It was a gift. Asking for it back damages your reputation with creators, who often talk to each other.

How do I find out if a creator posted without tagging me?

Watch their recent videos on every platform they use and look for the product itself, not just your handle. A tool that checks the video frames, audio and caption can do this automatically.

What should I say to a gifted creator who hasn’t posted?

Send one warm check-in asking whether it arrived and how they like it, with no mention of a post and an easy way to say no.

Stop chasing screenshots.
