CPV calculator for creator campaigns
What did each view of a gifting or creator campaign cost you? Enter what you spent and what the posts got, and compare it with what the same reach costs in your ads.
33% less per 1,000 views than your ads.
CPV = total cost ÷ views. CPM = CPV × 1,000. CPE = total cost ÷ engagements. CPC = total cost ÷ clicks. A view isn’t quite an ad impression; compare with care.
The formulas
| Metric | Formula | Answers |
|---|---|---|
| Cost per view (CPV) | Total cost ÷ views | What one view cost you |
| Cost per 1,000 views (CPM) | CPV × 1,000 | The number to put next to your ads’ CPM |
| Cost per engagement (CPE) | Total cost ÷ (likes + comments + shares + saves) | What one reaction cost you |
| Cost per click (CPC) | Total cost ÷ link clicks | What a visit cost, if you track links or codes |
What goes into the cost
- Product and shipping. For gifting, this is most of the cost: product at cost (not retail), packaging, inserts and postage, for every kit you sent, including the ones that didn’t lead to a post.
- Creator fees. Anything you paid creators. Zero for a gifting-only campaign.
- Other costs. An agency, tools, or money spent boosting posts.
Count every kit, not only the ones that got posts. If you send 40 kits and 15 creators post, the 25 that didn’t post are part of what the views cost.
Comparing with your ads
Put your paid social CPM, from your own ad account and the same platform, in the last field. The calculator says how much more or less 1,000 views of the creator posts cost.
A view and an ad impression aren’t the same thing. Each platform counts views its own way, and an impression can be a scroll past an ad. Treat the comparison as a guide, and compare campaigns with each other using the same method.
Where to get the views
Add up the views on every post from the campaign, read 30 days or so after each was posted so newer posts aren’t undercounted. The harder part is finding all the posts: many creators show the product without tagging you. Our guide to tracking influencer posts covers how.
Questions
How do you calculate cost per view?
Divide the campaign’s total cost by the total views of its posts. Multiply by 1,000 for the cost per 1,000 views (CPM).
What counts as cost for a gifting campaign?
Product at cost, packaging and shipping for every kit you sent, plus any fees, agency or boosting spend. Count kits that didn’t lead to a post too.
Is a creator CPM the same as an ad CPM?
Not exactly: a view isn’t an ad impression. It’s still a fair way to see whether creator posts are reaching people for more or less than your ads do.
