What the check looks at
The check reads the creator’s latest public videos: on TikTok, the videos their profile shows; on Instagram, their latest Reels; on YouTube, their recent uploads. From those it works out the numbers a brand cares about before sending a gift.
| Number | How it’s worked out | Why it matters for gifting |
|---|---|---|
| Views on a typical video | The middle value of their recent videos’ views | What one post from them is likely to reach. One viral video can’t inflate it. |
| Engagement rate by views | Likes, comments, shares and saves ÷ views | How strongly the people who watch react. |
| Engagement rate by followers | Engagements per video ÷ followers | How much of their own audience reacts. |
| Typical views ÷ followers | Views on a typical video ÷ followers | Whether their followers still watch. |
| Posts a week, last post | From the dates of their recent videos | Whether they’re active enough to post about your product soon. |
| Sponsored or gifted posts | Captions with words like #ad, sponsored, gifted or “PR package”, in 34 languages | Whether they’re used to working with brands, and how often. |
| Accounts they tag | @mentions in recent captions | Which brands and creators they already show. |
Warning signs, and what they don’t prove
- A typical video reaches under 2% of followers (for accounts with 5,000 or more). The followers may be inactive, old, or bought.
- One video with 10 times the views of the rest. Judge the creator by their typical video, not their best one.
- Lots of likes, very few comments. Real audiences talk; very quiet comment sections can mean bought likes, or just a format people don’t comment on.
- No new video in over 45 days, or fewer than 5 recent videos to judge from.
None of these proves anything. Plenty of honest creators have a quiet month or one video that took off. Treat a sign as a reason to scroll through their profile yourself before you ship.
Can it check for fake followers?
No public tool can see who a creator’s followers are, so no tool can count fake followers for certain. What you can see is whether those followers watch. That’s why the check leans on views per follower and engagement by views: bought followers don’t watch videos, so a big account with small, steady views is the sign to look for.
Is your gift worth a post?
Enter what your gift sells for and what 1,000 views are worth to you (your paid social CPM is a fair start). The check works out what a typical post from this creator is worth at that rate, and how much of it your gift covers. When the gift covers most of it, asking for a post in return for the product is fair. The influencer rate calculator shows the full formula.
Where the numbers come from
Profiles are read from the public pages and, for YouTube, the official API, through the analytics engine of our sister product, vidio. Numbers can be up to a day old. Nothing you enter is stored, and the check only uses what anyone can see on the creator’s profile.
Questions
What is influencer vetting?
Checking a creator before you work with them: whether people watch their videos, how they react, how often they post, what brands they already work with, and anything that looks off.
Is this influencer vetting tool free?
Yes, with no sign-up. It’s limited to a number of checks an hour per network, so it stays free for everyone.
Can it detect fake followers?
Not directly: no public tool can see who the followers are. It shows whether the followers watch, through views per follower and engagement by views, which is where bought followers give themselves away.
Why is my creator not found?
Check the platform and the spelling of the username. Private accounts can’t be read.
I’m the creator. Where can I see my own analytics?
This check is built for brands. For your own channel’s growth, scores and best time to post, use vidio’s free channel analytics, linked from your result.
